VISION STATEMENT The FNCCEC is a unified voice that leads in the preservation and maintenance of our languages, cultures and traditions as given by the Creator.
- Our languages have returned to first languages status among all generations
- Our respect for and connection to the land and Creation is celebrated
- Our ceremonies are practiced by all people of our Nations
- The Leadership and structures of OUR NATIONS and communities are based upon the traditions and values of our peoples
- All of our people take responsibility to actively participate in the affairs of our Nations
The First Nations Confederacy of Cultural Education Centres (FNCCEC) is the national not for profit organization which advocates on behalf of eighty seven First Nations cultural centres and programs which are found across Canada. The organization has a national office in Ottawa and a head office located on the Kitigan Zibi Anishnabeg First Nation, Quebec.
The FNCCEC provides technical support and program delivery to its member centres, and develops projects of interest and value to its membership. In addition, the FNCCEC is involved with public education initiatives such as cultural awareness to provincial schools, academic institutions, government, and the general public. The organization is grassroots driven with fundamental input from community based elders. The organization is directed by a national Board of Governors representing each region and territory.
OBJECTIVES The objectives of the national organization are to:
- Serve as a national organization and coordinating body for First Nations cultural centres
- To advocate for the promotion, protection, revitalization and maintenance of First Nations languages and cultures
- To provide information to the public, government, First Nation communities and organizations, schools, and aboriginal organizations on the promotion, protection and revitalization of First Nation languages and cultures
- To establish partnerships and links with aboriginal organizations, governments, mainstream cultural centres, museums, and the public
- To assist in the development of First Nations language and culture programs
- To assist in the establishment of First Nations cultural centres
- To assist in the development of community based training programs
- To provide technical support to cultural centres
- To establish local, regional, national and international links for First Nation cultural centres with governments, museums, academic institutions, and various professional groups
